I have 2 anoles. One is approx. 6 inches long, the other is approx. 4 inches long. I originally thought the bigger one was female and the smaller one was a young male, but today after a meal of crickets, the bigger one climbed onto a basking branch, puffed out it's dewlap (pink) and pumped up and down. The smaller anole immediately stopped what it was doing and ran up to where the bigger one was. At first I thought they were going to fight but they just laid together dozing. I'm confused.
Also, prior to the pumping action, the bigger one had turned brown, after he/she did the little dewlap pushups and the smaller anole came up to be with her/him, she/he turned green again.

that behavior is strictly male and the color change may have been mood, or appetite related but i think most likely it was do to the fact he was lying on a branch for his nap.

the smaller one is most likely a female.

hope this helps,
good luck
