many has Christianity killed? Yes, I had to trim the sentence to fit the space. I realize not ALL anti-theists make that claim. But many do. For those with that view, what is the "Christian death toll" from human history? (And how does one separate deaths by official edict of "Christianity" versus deaths at the hands of evil secular leaders who happened to rule in lands where Christianity was the predominant religion?)

I've read a lot of bold statements about the death toll but I'm not clear on the numbers and how they were compiled.
 
It depends on what deaths you attribute to Christianity. Are we talking about people who happened to be Christians, or people who killed *because* they were Christians? Are we talking about people who killed in a war, either as an act of defense or an act of aggression?

But, just for information, here are some numbers. Modern scholars estimate that some 250,000 people died in the Crusades. But that is the total for all ten Crusades, spanning a period of just over 300 years, and that includes the Christians who died as well as the Muslims who died. Interestingly, more people died in a single day of the bombing of Berlin in WWII than died in all ten Crusades, on both sides of the conflict, over a 300 year period.

Roughly 60,000 people were killed by the Inquisition. That is all four Inquisitions, covering all of Europe, and spanning a period of roughly 400 years. That, of course, includes people executed as foreign spies, witches, and serial killers (all of whom were evaluated by the Inquisition before being handed over for execution). Interestingly, that is actually fewer people per year than are executed by the state of Texas. It is actually really close to the number of people who are struck by lightning each year in England. It is also important to note that more men were executed for "witchcraft" than women, and that the witch-hunting did not pick up steam until the 16th century (many folks mistakenly believe it was during the Dark Ages or the Middle Ages).

The witch trials in the United States killed 19 people from the time that the colonies were first established until the death penalty for witchcraft was abolished. It is also interesting that it was the local Christian minister who finally managed put a stop to the Salem Witch Trials.
 
Well Read the bible in it god alone killed i think it was over 2 million...
I don't think it's so much a murderous religion, it can seem that way when people kill in the name of their god. But I mean come on your god is already a murderer
 
Well, if Christians are correct, then your god has killed...... around 106,456,367,000, according to the PRB. So God - the truest Christian there could ever be, the perfect Christan - killed around 107 billion people. Yay for Christianity.
 
If you have any record of the holy crusade , you can find it out. Probably Hitler was inspired by this .Islam also drew its lessons fro this .

Christianity is different from people. People kill people, not religion. Even if one would say they kill for God, God would say, "That's your call, I have nothing to do with it."

Biblically, God is the only one who has the right to take away one's life for he is the one who gives it. Jihad, Lethal Injection, and Death Sentences are totally against what Christianity says.

People who are so called "Christians" who kills do not really understand what it is about. People are the ones who kill, not Christianity. Even if it was a Crusade, God has nothing to do with it, it is the one who led the Crusade.
 
Your god tells us in the bible to kill many people of different faith, and he himself according to the myth have killed 2.1 million people. Even with your claim, compare that to wars caused by religion, Hitler, etc
 
Atheism is murderous...

Most communist leaders are atheists and have been torturing and killing christians for centuries and is still happening today.
 
This is because they need to justify their hate by lumping Christians in with the unrepentant, heathen Catholics and saying that it's all the same, in ignorance of facts, history and scripture. They hate Christians. That's really all there is to it.
 
Biblically speaking, God has murdered over 2,000,000 people alone.
 
If we take into account that every US president and majority of his parliament was Christian, I'd say somewhere in the Millions.

Hitler was a Catholic.
Stalin wasn't Atheist, he was anti-religious, but believed himself to be divinely inspired... he thought all religions had it wrong except him.

Um ...all the Jews....and the death toll of the Holocaust totals over 50 million on all sides. (over 7 million Jews murdered).

This religion sucks, and so do most others.
And how about all the innocent civilians in Iraq being slaughtered because George Bush wants oil from Osama Bin Laden? Who might I add, doesn't even come from Iraq.
Please go and watch Fahrenheit 9/11 and Schindler's List, and knock some sense into yourself.
 
Answering this question is like opening up a can of worms but generally, all religions have as their ultimate goal the desire to improve human life, but unfortunately too many people have used religion as a tool to suit their own personal agendas or for propaganda. These kinds of people have twisted the teachings of Christianity in order to justify murder, conquest, forced conversions, etc. The most egregious examples were The Crusades and European conquest of the New World and all its byproducts (genocide, slavery, forced conversions, etc.).

However, Christianity is not the only religion that has been used in this manner. Look at Islam and its history of spreading religion by the sword, and how some of the radicals we see today twist its teachings to justify slavery, sexism, terrorism, etc.

No religion is murderous or advocates murder, it's merely certain people who kill in the name of a religion to suit their own objectives who are the hypocrites.

I don't know how many people have died as a result of the actions of radicals, but their numbers are in the millions.
 
So many people were killed. Just look at the crusades. Thousands of woman, children and men were killed. Most wars are religious wars. And i think instead of saying anti-theists you can just write atheist? Unless you mean something else.
