I'm trying to take care of a hummingbird that was found in the middle of nowhere like 2 days ago, i've been feeding it with sugar water but it won't take small insects.
Screw the feeding, I know I can't care for it forever before it dies or gets sick because I've read caring for them is extremely difficult and a calling a specialist would be best, but there are none here where I live,
I would let it go but the problem is that even though it is fully feathered (well he seems to be) and it doesn't seem to be injured it doesn't fly, it barely glides when it falls, like if it was learning to fly or something.
What should be my course of action now that it is relatively healthy? Take it outside with me and leave it on the ground ( or on a tree away from cats and the like, of course) to see if eventually he can manage to turn all the flapping into hovering?
I'm not a fan of keeping 100%-wild animals in captivity, so this is why i'm asking
I have looked on the net and it tells me to take it with a rehabber
there are no bird rehabbers or specialized vets of the sort here (or at least that I know)
(and i'm outside the US)
