My son is nearly 18 months old and has been a late developer with walking. He didn't walk at all until 15 months, preferring to crawl or bottom shuffle. He has been walking quite well indoors for a couple of weeks now, seeming to (finally) prefer walking to crawling, and so we had his first shoes fitted. Now he seems to almost have regressed with the walking and gone back to crawling, especially but not only when wearing his shoes. No matter how much positive encouragement we give, he just wants to crawl everywhere, especially outdoors. He's tearing holes in the knees of his trousers, hurting his hands on the ground outside, not to mention all the extra washing of his clothes. (Its damp and muddy outdoors at this time of year in UK.) He is heavy and I have already injured my back and have tennis elbow from constantly carrying him for so many months. My Health Visitor says he is developmentally normal, as he CAN walk but is simply choosing not to do so. She has no suggestions other than to keep trying, but I'm getting to my wits end with it all!! When I hold his arms or hands, he just screams and throws himself down. Please can anyone here give me any helpful words of advice?
