My nephew is fourteen, and wants to become an apple developer. Can this be done with an eighth grade education? He is incredibly bright and a quick learner. Which one should I let him do if it can be done? iPad apps do not have much competition, but iPhones are incredibly popular and he might get downloads from his friends.
Can he most likely pull off the $100 per year? He is saving up for something.
One more thing-- he knows nothing about developing. Nothing.

He can do both iPad and iPhone apps using the same developer license. It will require hard work for him to learn what he needs to know, but its doable. I am learning apple development now. Its tricky for me as I work 40-60 hours per week combing actual work and college courses. Still I've been able to learn a decent amount and I will be releasing a couple apps soon.

your nephew has a huge advantage in that now in the summer he can spend far more time working on learning the language and development.

I say go for it!

To create apps, you need some computer knowledge. You'll need to know Objective C. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Objective-C

Obj.-C isn't the easiest language to learn either. Another thing you'll need to have, is graphics design knowledge, to make your apps look good.

If he has that knowledge, then I'd let him, plus it costs 99$.

I'm young, and i was an apple developer for a while.
