diversion, a form of entertainment that? President Obama stated on May 11, 2010:

"And meanwhile, you're coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don't always rank that high on the truth meter. And with iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations — none of which I know how to work — information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation. So all of this is not only putting pressure on you; it's putting new pressure on our country and on our democracy."

Are iPods and other modern technology gadgets simply a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment that is actually hurting our ability to learn and be educated?

All the electronic gadgetry is certainly helpful, however, it has become "overkill" in terms of usage. Kids and even some adults cannot spell or write and using texting abbreviations does not help. Also, people who are constantly using the gadgets find it addicting and cannot function without immediate connection to someone. Many people cannot "just be" without all this electronic chaos. Additionally, the only time the users of the gadgets communicate is using the gadgets, and they have no real connection to anyone other than thru electronics. It is also a diversion away from some of the most crucial issues of the day. The current illegal issue, the corruption in government, the dire financial crisis, the doom and gloom regarding lack of jobs and no promise for any kind of resolution in the immediate future. The lack of border control, the unending surge of illegals who are
dropped into our system and "we the people" end up paying for their illegality with our tax dollars. Our services are limited because of contrived wars, and the Military Industrial Complex uses our tax dollars for their gain. So while the gadgetry is useful, it is a significant diversion from the real issues in the real world.

Those who own iPod iike gadgets change them every six months or so. Once the craze is dilute they move on to other gadget. It is for those who can afford it. If you use these things as status symbols, you have to havr the latest always. No body purchases one ipod and using it for 5-10 years.
