I drive a 2001 Lexus RX 300, and my parents just recently became "concerned with my driving". They claim that there is a "black box" somewhere in the back or something (they claim that it's in all cars..or at least the make of mine) that can tell them exactly where I have been and how fast I have driven. On the contrary to what they may say, I am a good driver (never gotten a ticket, or in an accident) and i don't speed. I go 5 mph over the speed limit TOPS. This is because they have made it quite clear that if I ever get into an accident/speeding ticket, I will have to start paying for my own gas and insurance. So anyways, I have nothing to hide, but I'm really mad that my parents don't trust me and think that I'm speeding and/or sneaking around (because I'm definitely not...). I just want to know if they are telling the truth about this little thing, or if they are just trying to scare me to make sure I'm not doing things I'm not supposed to be doing. Please give me as much details as possible, of where this thing could be, or if its real, and if they are telling the truth.

I honestly don't think they are tracking your every move however there are newer cars like 2009 cars that do let the parents know exactly how fast the kid was driving. In this case I believe you folks are just saying this to scare you so that you will not do something you ain't supposed to do.If you still feel like they are watching you then Look for this so called black box.Sit down and have a talk with your parents and let them know you have nothing to hide and that they shouldn't worry about you!

Such "black boxes" do exist. They can track your whereabouts as well as capture speed data, etc. They've been around for a few years in several forms. If you do a web search for "automobile black box" you'll see plenty of articles that describe these things.

yes all newer lexus have a gps log but you would have to put it on a computer to get that info. but thay could call a find out the location of the car and any givein time

yep...it's a gps tracker...uses satillites and triangulation....keep being a good driver and they will get tired of watching you.

never heard of that...i really think your parents are trying to scare you into driving carefully..so they don't have to worry
