I must spend at least 8 hours a day on the computer, even though I'm a student (somehow I work in study time and sleep). I know I have a problem, but I cannot stop going on the computer. I can't even watch an episode of a TV show without keeping up with the message boards at the same time. The computer has become more interesting than the TV, which used to be enough to satisfy me before I ever had a computer.

I'm going to become a nurse - not in the program yet, but I need to know some strategies to cut down on my addiction.

Is withdrawl inevitable?

How much time do you spend on the computer?

Oh, yeah.

Weekdays: 2 pm to 8 pm, then 9 pm to 11 pm after homework.
Weekends: 10 am to 11 pm.

I used to be just like you. In order to kill your addiction to the computer so much, you need to find other things to do. For instance, get outside and have a life. When I was on the computer all the time, I found that I was actually depressed and that was my way of escaping. I'd be chatting, on the webcam, playing games and so much other stuff. My grades began to fail and I knew it. I had to stop cold turkey. The good thing about it though, I just met new people in my life who enjoyed going places. I've been going all the time now. I normally spend about 2 hours on the computer when I get home. To check my myspace, email, and talk to hubby whose deployed. Then I'm off to enjoy the rest of my time with my daughter or go somewhere.

3 hours, but I have a dog and I love to take her for a walk.

Just find a hobby that isn't on your computer.
withdrawl is going to be inevitable. Just like any addiction.

This might sound weird, but go camping with out any cell phone, ipod, electronics. It's amazing.
