Hi there. I am looking for a nice pair of headphones under 150$. In my research, I have come to understand that there is not one good headphone; it simply depends on what type you prefer.

I favor progressive rock, ambient, jazz, and soundtracks ranging from strong orchestras to piano to vocals; as well as a mild array of rock and synthy-stuff. I do like bass, but I also love clarity- meaning that the bass should not be ridiculously overpowering, but very much felt.

I am not familiar with audiophile vernacular such as "soundstage" and what it means to have a "warmer sound." What is soundstage anyway? So as you can imagine, I struggle with some of the reviews.

All in all, the headphones need to be portable and closed. I am considering a headphone amp as well. I am a new student to sound but I know the EQ levels I like and I would like to hear things I've never heard before in my music, and the subtle delicacies within.

I know I am asking a lot for a budget of 150$, but do you know of anything that comes close? Thanks!

Im tryna find the same kind of thing! but my budget is even less :S.
so far, and from listening to them in the shop the best headphones i have found are Monster beat solo headphones by Dr Dre. but these are expensive and reasonably new so the reviews may be hard to come by. If u want to try them out then in the Uk (if thats where you are) they seem to be demoing in most curries stores.. for a reason i have not quite worked out.
Also Koss seem to have some good, but pricey new releases that are worth taking a look at.
i would avoid skullcandy at all costs. expensive and not great sound quality
hope ive helped :D
