better sound? I'm planning on getting a good pair of "cans" but what sounds better than a grado's without using amps in your preference.
i'm too poor for an amp D=

All Grados i've tried are really comfortable - forgot i was wearing headphones after a while. Depends on your budget i guess. The most expensive Grados i can't think of any which sound better to be honest - rs1s sound amazing!
around the £100-400 mark you've got the Beyerdynamic DT 880 at about £150 or Beyerdynamic DT990 at around £250, the AudioTechnica ATH-W1000 are supposedly very very good at £400. All worth a go, Grados are very high quality though. Give the Ultrasone Edition9 a go too, they could well be better than the Grados sound wise - never tried a pair though, well out of my price range at around £900!

I'm not sure what you mean without using Amps - a good headphone amp is necissary for a good sound!
