Avast Mail Scanner warnings???

I get this error message pop-ups whenever I (re)boot my computer;"avast will not be able to protect incoming mail(IMAP protocol)(NNTP protocol)(SMTP protocol)(Pop3 protocol).Error 10106"I'm using Avast Home Edition on Windows XPsp2. Could anyone help??
 
What this means is that the application failed to initialize properly. If this has happened more than once, you need to uninstall Avast and download and install a newer version. Go into Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, find Avast, click on the right side to remove it, close the control panel, restart the computer then go back online and download the newest version.I've tried 4 or 5 times to leave the new link to Avast, and every time I do, this screwy Answers refuses to accept it. So. when I left off the link, it accepted my answer.
 
How can i uninstall Avast when I get stuck at a screen with only my background, and no icons whatsoever? Also, my Task manager is blocked by an old program that failed to uninstall properly.
