Regarding word count, how long are your "chapters"? I set an overall word count goal for my current work-in-progress because I tend to write over a reasonable number of words and end up having to cut a lot of it out. I'm basically underwriting my first draft this time then I plan to fill in some of the emptier spots. On average, do you aim for a certain count (give or take, of course) for each chapter or do you have some chapters much longer than the others?
I'm simply curious as to how other writers go about this. This is the first time I've worked with a detailed outline. I know to "just write the story and worry about chapters later" so please, no lectures. Thanks in advance everyone!
