After Game 1 of the 2011 Western Conference Finals, everyone was talking about Dirk Nowitzki. Quietly, what nobody cared to admit was that the Dallas Mavericks needed a career night out of Dirk simply to edge the Oklahoma City Thunder. In Game 2, the Thunder held Dirk in check and took home a 106-100 victory to tie the series, 1-1.
Kevin Durant led the way for the Thunder with 24, however it was the bench that really sparked OKC. James Harden was masterful in the fourth stanza on his way to 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals while taking only nine shots and not turning the ball over. Eric Maynor, who finished the game running the show in place of All-Star Russell Westbrook, had 13 big points.
Dirk still played rather well — totaling 29 points on 10-for-17 shooting from the field. But no other teammate scored more than 15 points as the Mavs lost the home-court advantage in this series.
The game was close throughout until the Thunder played nearly flawless down the stretch. All in all, Oklahoma City shot 55.7% from the floor and appeared wise beyond their years.
Game 3 is on Saturday in Oklahoma City.
