Hi there. I'm looking for any good books on the Renaissance that isn't specifically about art.
I've been looking up a few and all I seem to be able to find are books only pertaining to art, and while that's nice, I'm more interested in other aspects such as the religion, the society itself, how people lived and maybe a bit on things like the personal lives of Leonardo Da Vinci rather than just stuff about his paintings. Also, I'm really fascinated by the Borgia family but I could also only find books talking about Cesare and his conquests. That's all fine too, but I would want something more about Rodrigo (AKA Pope Alexander) and the family in general rather than just the war aspect, even though I know that's important. Just really anything that talks about how the Renaissance was shaped and all that.
So is there anything like that which would cater to what I'm looking for? Or perhaps several books that are on the subjects I mentioned before. Also, a side note; I'm looking for something that is actually fun to read rather than just a history text book of sorts, if you know what I mean. Rather than something presented as a droning school paper, I would like something that is a bit more interesting and easy to read rather than a textbook or like I'm just reading from Wikipedia.
Thanks for any suggestions at all! I really appreciate any help here.
