Best flash cards for DSi?

I am getting my daughter a DSi XL for her birthday and was wondering which flash card is the best for it. We have a DS with an R4 card now. I know R4 is crap, so what are the best options that can be upgraded and are easy to use ? I know this is a stupid question, but can you download the ROMs and put them straight on the the micro SD, the same as the R4 ? I am sure you can, but just want to be sure!!!
