Best handheld for geocaching?

I recently became interested in geocaching. I want to ask for a handheld gps for christmas so that I can get started. I want a good quality gps, but nothing too expensive. Just something easy-to-use for a beginner. any suggestions? i will try to find one new or used on eBay. thanks!

Best to start with is Garmin Etrex Legend, as you go you should upgrade to better garmins ,maybe find 500 caches then upgrade.
