About the only way Tom Izzo could be mistaken for Tom Cruise is by dressing as Maverick from iconic 1986 movie Top Gun. The Michigan State coach did his best Cruise impression on Friday night, donning a green flight suit and entering the Breslin Center in a mock fighter jet just after a video of Izzo, sliced in with footage of the movie, played on the video board. Izzo *has a reputation for embracing Midnight Madness silliness more than most coaches, from his
entrance on horseback in 2003, to his
300-style Spartan warrior get-up in 2007 to
his hippie costume in 2008. The Top Gun theme was a nod to Michigan State's historic Veteran's Day matchup with preseason No. 1
North Carolina on an aircraft carrier in San Diego.
