First off, do you even know if it is legal to hunt birds with a pellet gun (or at all) where you live? If you are inside city limits, you may not even be able to legally shoot a pellet gun.

Second, are you able to differentiate between pest birds (starlings, English sparrows) and songbirds, which are Federally protected? If not, you risk having yourself or your mother fined a LOT of money.

Third, it sounds to me like you should just hunt paper targets for the time being. I'm fairly sure you have no concept of gun safety and likely aren't a particularly good marksman. If you're legally allowed to shoot in your backyard where you live, shoot paper targets, tin cans, et cetera. Skip shooting animals until you know for sure that it's legal and that you can do it without causing the animal to suffer.

For target shooting, a Daisy 880 would be fine. So would a Crosman 760. Neither one should cost more than $50, but DO NOT shoot animals with them. The Daisy might be capable of taking small animals such as mice or rats, but again, you don't have the skill set yet to do so.
