Blu-Ray audio questions?

I am planning on buying a blu-ray disc player NOT a ps3 and I was wondering if I can get the same audio through an optical audio cable instead of HDMI. I have a 1080p television that I will be connecting via HDMI but my reciever doesnt allow audio to be played via HDMI, only optical and coaxial (however I prefer optical) so I was wondering if I can still get the DTS-HD etc. signals from my player.
