Hi, My set up is blu-ray player connects to HDTV via hdmi cable. My understanding is that blu-ray player reads data (video and audio) from a blu-ray disc and transfers these data to HDTV via hdmi cable. There is no manipulation or modification of data by a blu-ray player. If it is true, then there should be no difference in what blu-ray player I choose. Please let me know if my understanding is correct.
Thanks, TGreen

Well, the video data is compressed on the Blu-Ray disc. So the player ready, decompresses and then transfers the data.

Also many blu-ray discs use java for menues and (new since dunno how many weeks on some recent blu-ray discs) for interactive content. All this can produce quite tiresome loading times. I recommend you go to some store where they are willing to show you what happens when you insert a blu-ray disc and whether you're okay with that. Most ppl don't bother, but some are rather agitated by waiting half a minute (depending on the player) between inserting the disc and getting the first image. As far as I know the "fastest" blu-ray player right now is the playstation 3. It offers loading times less than about three or four seconds. It is unlikely that normal consumer players will reach these levels right away as they won't likely build a 3 GHz cell cpu into a standard blu-ray player. If you consider the PS3 as a player check whether you can live with the noise levels produced by the fan ... the newer ps3 models aren't as loud as the old ones.

If you want it silent and can bear with the loading times: Just make sure to pick a recent model of a company you trust. For normal use it shouldn't make much of a difference. You may read reviews and such stuff. ;)
