My question is pretty simple. I love the look of carbon fibre hoods, roofs and wings. Before I looked into it, I thought Carbon Fibre was a type of solid plastic or something, that was light weight with very low wind resistance, to get some extra velocity out of your automobile.

However I watched a video where people send you a Carbon Fibre Kit that is quite cheap, and you do your own parts. They send you enough carbon fibre to do small parts like Mirrors.

My question is this. Although the Carbon Fibre is very good for low wind resistance, and it also looks really cool. What is the point of adding the extra weight over top of a part? For instance you buy a Mustang right? You get a Carbon Fibre hood. Yea it looks cool, but its just extra weight to the aluminum or steel hood?

Isn't it?

That is probably not real carbon fiber. Real carbon fiber parts are very expensive and very light weight. Tuners might put fake CF on a car to make it look cool, which is fine if you don't have the money, but don't be fooled - it's probably fake if it's on some dudes civic at the mall.

And yes, of course it makes no sense to add weight to a car.
