booking a holiday first time help?

just new some advice. my first time booking a holiday and i heard that thomas cook have this payment scheme where you pay monthly before you travel. is this true? if it is do you need a credit check?
i would save but find it hard to be honest lol we have very little money and we really need a break any suggestions
