Buddhism for a Newbie?

I'm trying to find my mind a home, a new religion, something that has been around for a long time, and not as corrupt as christianity, judaism and islam. So i thought of Buddhism. Can someone give me the basics.

Such as what Buddhist are all about, who is the supreme leader, holy texts.

Also taking suggestions on other religions fitting my criteria
 
If you turn the channel to PBS right now they have a documentary on Buddha (Well, Siddharta Guatama). I'm not kidding, I'm watching it right now.
 
Well Buddhism has no god, Buddha is not a god, he is just a prince long time ago, who meditated and became enlightened. Buddhists are all about non-violent, and peace. They do not like killing of anything, not even little ants. So they are vegetarian, but only the true Buddhist. They don't drink, smoke, harm any living things, harm thyself. So they don't kill, they don't steal, no sexual misconduct, no lying, and no alcohol or drugs. That is all you need to know, no leaders.
