My mate has recently given me his old iPhone 3G which he used only as an iPod touch. I connected the iPhone to iTunes, went back to factory settings and then upgraded the firmware to the new 4.0. Now I'm being asked to insert a valid SIM card to activate the iPhone, neither of us know what carrier the iPhone was originally with and I only want to use it as an iPod Touch as he did.
Is there any way of finding out what carrier the phone used to be with (IMEI etc) or a simple method of bypassing the activation screen. I don't have any intention of using it as a mobile as I already have one that suits my needs.
Thank you.
