I am jewish, my girlfriend and I are going to be spending the rest of our lives together. She is not jewish but she does want to convert the orthodox and traditional way. Does she have to be converted already before I propose to her (according to jewish law)?

I heard of jews marrying black woman then later they converted.

It'd be fine, as long as you have a intention of passing down Judaism to your kids you will be fine.

why would jews need to convert??? theyre already jewish

no its your life

If she wants to convert orthodox, you can't get engaged before she stepped out of the Mikwe as having a premarital relationship before marriage won't be allowed for someone who wants to live orthodox (in that way, you generally do not have relationships before marriage and you would not be allowed to touch her before you get married). Moreover she could get problems convincing the Beth Din that she does not just want to convert for you but for herself and they might have problems with her wanting to convert orthodox if her way of life already contradicts Orthodoxy from the beginning. At a last point, I would consider that it might be dangerous because if you get engaged and or married before she converts, it is pretty presumably that you get your first child before she converted and it could lead to the fact that she never does - some people say conversion is easier if they marry the woman first because a mixed marriage is not allowed and it's more urgent to convert someone from a mixed marriage than someone who just wants to convert without hurry; but on the other side many of these mixed marriages end up to stay mixed marriages forever (I know quite a few of them and the women's/men's plans to convert generally got cancelled in that moment they became pregnant) - so I would wait with everything until she converted if a jewish family and marriage is important to you.
