We were told went we went to work that we would earn 1 week vacation after 1 year of employment, 2 weeks after 5 years and 3 weeks after 10 years and so on, not that we've earned the 3 weeks vacation, our employer wants to change it. Two people have earned 4 weeks and will only get 3, two people have earned 3 weeks and will only get two. Is this against the law? Is there anything we can do? We live & work in N.C.

NC is a state that is called a "right to work" state. What this basically means is that nothing other than a fair wage and a few breaks are guaranteed. Unfortunately, paid vacations are not something that is required and an employer is not legally required to give them to you at all. If you get anything like that in NC, consider yourself lucky.

I live in NC as well and our employment laws are definitely for the employers, not the employees.

If you are not covered by a Union Contract the employer can do whatever he pleases. I suggest you all get together and contact the nearest Union covering your employment and see if you can get them to represent you in the future.

No, they can't legally do that. It has to be in writing or you can all testify if it isn't.
