Yes, the Playstation 3 can play divx files.

Just recently there was an update that allowed for Divx files that were larger than 2GB to be played on the PS3.

The PS3 can play files smaller than 2GB, it's just that before the new update, the PS3 could only play Divx files that were smaller than 2GB.
