Can a Rabbit (VW) use 17" wheels/tires without damaging the suspension over time?

Can a Rabbit (VW) use 17" wheels/tires without damaging the suspension over time? I just bought a certified Rabbit, and found out that it comes with 17" wheels/tires , brand new installed by the dealer. But on the door (drivers side) is clearly stated that it uses 15" wheels/tires. I didn't check the tires, because I never expected the dealer will install brand new tires/wheels of the wrong size! I learned the hard way. Anyway, I need second opinions! Do I need to change the wheels/tires. The dealer service doesn't want to clarify that, for obvious reasons.
