Can a rumor destroy a friendship?

one of my gay guy friends is now really friendly with one of the freshmen girls that i kissed. i feel like our friendship is over case now he has a negative view of me.
 
Yes, when I was in high school one of my guy friends was a gay guy who confided in me about his sexuality in 11th grade, and I accidentally told one of my friends over a study date, and she told EVERYBODY in the school. He got really mad, and hated me ever since then, but he couldn't hit me because I'm a girl :) , after that he transferred, and I haven't seen him since.
 
Rumors only have the power that people giver them the same holds true for secret simply remove their power by telling your friend the truth and let the chips fall where they may. If you lose that friend you only lost the facade of a friend and not a true friend. You are well rid of people like that. Give people a chance to step up. I would recommend being honest. If his view of you is negative it may simply be that he doesn't want the competition.
