I reside inside an apartment building, but unfortunately, the company that manages the place I live in, they don't allow satellite dishes to be mounted outside. My landlord did tell me however, that if they can make the dish work inside my apartment, then it would be okay. I live in a two story building, but I'm on the bottom.
For what it's worth though, I live on one of the ends, and because my apartment unit is a 3 bedroom, the third bedroom is basically a 1 story extension, or an outlet, attached to the side of the building. So picture a 2 story home, with a small garage attached to the side that would resemble 1 story.
It's not allowed to be placed outside, period. I have cable, and that's the problem. Charter is just too damn ridiculous. The prices they charge, for the sub-par services they offer. My only other option is AT&T, but I've had bad experiences with them.
I only have a west facing window with very little amount of plant life in that general area. Otherwise, I have north facing windows, but there are too many trees and plants that would make it virtually impossible for satellite reception.
