Can anyone help me on Bodybuilding?

I read and search great ways on bodybuilding but I can't seem to choose which is the best one for me.
There are two types of workouts I know of and they are :
1. Extreme w/ heavy weights and a great burst of energy doing 2 - 3 sets.
2. Taking it slow with heavy(yet not as heavy as 1) and repeat reps doing 4 - 5 sets.

Can anyone help me?
Give me your experience on these workouts and tell me which would work best for me.

I want to gain 20 lbs of muscle by the end of Feb. (If possible)
I'm 5'9'' and currently 170lbs.
