thanx guys for ur answers. i had no problems before. i had to re-install xp after a crash. and my dvd's worked great. it took literally minutes to burn a movie on divx player. and they worked great on my home one. but i know it was always mpeg 2 before. how do i change the format so they burn under that instead of mpeg 4?? ta
sorry the dvd's i used b4 were crap. but now i have sony. good ones

Yes, it makes a difference. Burning DVDs so they work in DVD players is complicated. I did one a couple of years ago, putting X-Men 3 footage onto DVD to see if it would work.

You may need to try different programs. DVDs are encoded in MPEG2. And the disc you use makes a difference -- some players will only take either DVD+R or DVD-R, not necessarily both, and not all will take RW or DVD-RAM discs.

Confusing, isn't it? Try a program like Nero to burn footage to DVD for use in a DVD player, and experiment with different disc types. Try also creating a VCD (video CD), and see if that works in your DVD player (most will play them, just not the cheapest players).
