Can Authors/Writers Succeed Without Book Tours and Promotions?

I am just curious as to whether or not it is likely that a person could write a a best-seller book without really promoting it themselves. For example, they publish it, but do little to promote it.

I am not really the type tha likes to go around and promote stuff myself, go on book tours, talk shows, etc.
