Can Blackberry Bold network reception be improved?

My work location is on the edge of cell coverage, but my old Blackberry 8330 could usually get adequate phone and 1XEV coverage. However, I just bought a Blackberry Bold, and it cannot get reception at all at my work location, even at the same moment when the 8330 gets reception just fine. Same service provider (Telus) for both units. I have to drive about 2 kilometres closer to the cell towers before the Bold starts to work on 3G. This surprises me, because I had assumed that a newer, supposedly better Blackberry would get at least as good reception. Does anyone know if and how it is possible to improve network reception on the Bold?
