This allows you to play most games from an external hard drive (its not 100% compatible tho). I don't know that your modchip will help any. It will probably just let you download and burn the USB Extreme disc image for free (I'll let you ponder the ethics of that). You still need your PS2 to read the USB Extreme disc though (at least at bootup before it switches to the hard drive) so you'll need at least a partially functioning laser lens.
