Can I administer flea and tick meds to my animals while I am pregnant?

I just applied a once a month flea & tick drop to all 3 of my dogs backs. I have also been bathing these dogs with a flea and tick shampoo. Of course I washed my hands afterwards, but there is still residual chemical left on the animals. The active ingredient in the drops is phenothrin. I'm concerned what kind of exposure to these pesticides is harmful for my fetus. I am 9 weeks pregnant. Please, I need some advice on whether it is safe to continue use of the products and/or recommendations on how to keep my baby and my dogs healthy.

Wearing gloves is a good idea, but your still breathing the chemicals. If you have no-one else to bathe your dogs, I would consider using all natural dog shampoos and flea treatments. One such product can be found at http://www.cedarcide.com/.

Just to be safe, I wouldn't. Its best to reduce your exposure to chemicals if at all possible.

If it's possible for someone else to do it then have them do it. If not, use gloves, wash your hands thoroughly and don;t pet or groom your dog or a day or 2 after applying meds.

I previously asked my vet the same question.
