Ok, i know it seems an obvious answer, but im having trouble with this at work. When i first started there, i was employed as just a labourer, with no licences. After a while, other people were using the remote overhead crane and forklift trucks without having a licence, i stupidly did the same thinking it will keep me in the good books and secure my job etc. Now ive realised really, what will happen if i have an accident operating either of them without a licence, and last month i gave my boss a letter stating i was no longer prepared to operate them without a licence, and was prepared to carry on with my other duties as normal.
Today the main manager who i hardly see came in and asked me outside for a quiet word. He said "Whats all this about you wanting to work to rules?" I said well if you mean the letter i wrote, and explained what the letter said. He said is that it, i said yes and he walked off. He was then having words with 2 of my bosses, whilst looking over at me and when i asked my boss afterwards what that were about he was edgy and said nothing, so im pretty sure it was.
Ive got a feeling there going to try and get rid of me, even though i genuinely am a grafter there, they dont like the fact im refusing to do it. My direct boss agrees with me, but once the top managers are involved he has his tail between his legs and goes by whatever they say. If they try to sack me for this, would i definitely be able to get my job back or sue them for unfair dismissal? I still feel under pressure to operate them, my boss will ask me to do a certain job knowing i would need to use the crane for example, and when i have to tell him i cant because i have no licence, he looks at me as if to say oh god you still not going to do it. If i did go back to using them after feeling pressured, and had an accident, it would be me myself thats at blame and not my employer right?
