Can i bring a pipe in my checked luggage?

Well i bought a piece, from one of the markets in bangkok, and i want to bring it with me back to California. I have never smoked out of it, and it will be in my checked luggage. Will it be okay.
And if they do find it, what will be the consequences. OR will they just through it out?
Im going from BANGKOK to CALIFORNIA
