Can I buy a phone on Craigslist if I have T-Mobile I just change the sim Cards right?

So, I recently switched TO t-mobile from sprint. I'm thinking of buying an UNLOCKED iPhone 3g on Craigslist. I was curious as if all I have to do when I buy the phone is to put the sim card in and all of my contacts and calling/texting will work fine?

PLEASE ANSWER QUICK!!
