Can I customize iPhone Wallpaper?

So in a nutshell I'm getting an iPhone in a few months, and I'm wondering if you can put a custom wallpaper background, like on a desktop for a PC. If so, does it require any mods or can one do it legit?

Please no comments about how you think it sucks, or how much of a money pit it is.

They have AMAZING wallpaper designs for the iPhone!

If you want a theme, mind you, you'd have to jailbreak it.
It doesn't cost money and it's pretty cool because you can download apps from the app store for free! You'd have to do some research on it, though.
