can i have 2 snakes together in the same tank?

i have a pall python . he's 1.5 ft long . i have 40 gal.tank. i want buy one more ball p. and i want to have them in the same tank, but i'm not sure of that will be ok.for the snake? i'm not sure what i have-male or female . should i have one of each or that's not important?? please help

Well first I'd get the python you have sexed. If you have a male I would strongly advise against housing two snakes together for two reasons. First if you get another male they will probably fight and could injure each other. Second if you get a female they will breed every season and you'll end up with a lot of babies (especially if you can't sell them) and breeding every year can be hazardous to the females health. If you have a female then get another female. I have two corn snakes that I house together and they do perfectly fine. They don't seem to mind each other at all.
