Can I install consoles from older versions of cars into new models?

What I'm trying to ask is this question that I have to ask: Can I take overhead consoles from older versions of cars into newer versions of cars? I.E. 2003 Chevy Impala overhead thermometer into a 2009 model Chevy Impala.
