Can I lose my home and car over unpaid medical bills?

I live in the state of Kentucky and I was wondering can I lose my home and car over unpaid medical bills or if the can garnish his wages? My husband was injured badly a year ago in a car accident and the medical bills were so high that we would be probably paying on them until we are old. I was also wondering how long it would take to make them disappear off of his credit.
