My Mother's laptop charger has died. The LED lights wont come on and it wont do anything. I noticed that the plugs on the power brick are basically the same, Would I be able to plug her cord for her adaptor into my adaptor? They are the same 18.5 V output and everything.

I don't see why not if the voltages are the same, but just to be on the safe side get hold of a test meter and check the polarities are the same, if you connect DC the wrong way around it could fry your computer. It is my experience that for this reason the plug is usually on the AC (mains) side of the transformer. :3_8_13[1]:
