I'm in an airborne unit and this is how i did it: First, make sure you have the correct unit flash (patch) sewn on it, so that when worn, it is over your left eye. I'm not sure what the 416th's looks like but make sure you find it. Second, using a fresh razorblade, gently shave all of the nappy fuzz off, using a circular pattern from the center. You want to be able to see threads when you're done. Third, look inside your beret and locate the cardboard stiffener in the front. You should see the stitching where your flash has been sewn on Using a sharp pair of scissors, cut all of the cardboard away from the outline of the flash. This makes the beret more flexible so you can shape it. Now, run a hot shower, and hop in wearing your beret. (seriously) With the hot water raining down, start pulling the excess flap of fabric down over your right ear, while flipping and pulling the flash down over your forehead. With enough stretching and tugging, the beret should be formed to your head with the extra material laying nicely over your right ear. When you get it the way you want in the mirror, take it off carefully and lay it down without it losing its shape. It'll take a bit to get the look where it needs to be, but you gotta break it in to have it squared away. AIRBORNE!!
