Can I switch from monthly plan to pay as you go for T-mobile ?

I don't think you can take a number with you to a prepaid plan.

I have a monthly plan but want to change to prepaid plan . Can I do it and still keep my number ? I have another thought to move to At & T prepaid plan ?Can i move and still keep my number?
