can i use any bluetooth keyboard on the microsoft surface?

I am getting a Microsoft surface, but I don't want to buy the touch or type covers they have. I would rather just buy a cheaper Bluetooth keyboard, but I'm not sure if it will work with my future tablet.

Any help is much appreciated
