Can I use vacation/sick time to supplement short-term disability for maternity leave?

I have accrued vacation/sick time and will be shortly going out on maternity leave. My director is unsure if I can use accrued time while also receiving short-term disability. I checked the employee handbook and this is not addressed. I have done this at one previous employer in the same town/state. I am a NY state resident. Thank you for your help!
