Can my HOA make me remove the ladders of my truck?

It does not state specifically that equipment must be removed, just that the signs and lettering be covered.

Have they asked you to do this? I would think their beef would be that the vehicle looks like a work truck, and they could require that no commercial vehicles be parked on the property.

Maybe you just need to cover any commercial lettering on the ladders. A HOA can make you do most anything if it is written into their bylaws, and the bylaw itself is not in violation of any local, state or federal governmental laws. Some states and localities have dealt with the current trend of overreaching by HOA's, by passing governmental laws that restrict the intrusiveness of the HOA. Contact your state or local legislator if you believe your HOA is overreaching, and ask him or her to sponsor legislation.
