We have a suburban that has an attachment for pulling on the back, and so I was wondering if we got a 4 horse bumper pull trailer if it would be able to pull our horses. They are draft crosses that range from 16 hands to 17 hands and they are all in the 1200 to 1300 range for weight.

Oh, I really doubt it. Here are the pieces of data required to answer for sure:

What is the towing capacity of your truck? (In the owners manual)
What is the unloaded weight of your trailer? (On the serial number plate or the owners manual)
What is the weight of the equipment that you intend to pull?
You have already given the weight of the horses.

I would not accept a bumper pull for anything larger than a two horse. Bigger than that and I think you need the extra stability and carrying capacity of a gooseneck.

I would not recommend it. Most Suburbans are 1/2 ton trucks and I personally would not feel comfortable pulling the weight you have described with less than a 3/4 ton truck.

Have you tested it with just one horse yet? That should be the key to your answer. If you have tested it and it feels like it isn't going to give way, then it will most likely be fine. But if it is acting kind of strained, then I wouldn't risk the lives of 4 beautiful and wonderful creatures.

Hope This Helps!

yea, i have a friend who has a suburban and we used to 'trailer pull' each other to go ridding at an arena--- we fit 5horses and 2ponies in a 4horse trailer, it was so bad i quit trailering with them.... you should be ok- just try it out and if it succeeds then ok if not then dont;-)
